2024 Töredékek, Komárom Menház
In 2024 the Menház (the Jewish Community Centre) in Komárom held Töredékek (“Fragments”), an exhibition marking the eightieth anniversary of the deportation of the Komárom Jewish community in 1944. It ran from 13 June to 25 October 2024.
The exhibition
Töredékek was co-organised with the Duna Menti Múzeum of Komárno and curated by Szabó Csekei Tímea. It showed work by local Jewish artists of Komárom, among them György Rauscher, his teacher Harmos Károly, Reichentál Ferenc, and Szóbel Géza, with loans from the Duna Menti Múzeum, the Klapka György Múzeum, and private collections.
Why it matters here
The exhibition placed Rauscher within the Jewish artistic community of his home town, and within its destruction, a framing closer to the /holocaust-memorial than to the New Objectivity reading that organises most of the scholarship.
It is also one of the few post-2019 occasions to gather and re-show his work, and a sign of how his name now circulates in the memory of the Komárom community (see /venues/komarom).
