Sport im Bild

Sport im Bild was a Berlin illustrated magazine, published twice a month by the Scherl Verlag from 1895 to 1934, covering sport, theatre, fashion, and society life. It was György Rauscher’s main outlet during his Berlin years: he won its 1928 international cover-design competition and became a regular contributor, supplying eleven covers and eight interior pictures between 1928 and 1930 (/bibliography#szamado-2019, p. 13, p. 23).

Rauscher’s contribution

The Sport im Bild work is the core of Rauscher’s printed output, and the source of his Berlin society subjects: women shopping, riding, walking dogs, and attending the season’s events, all in his art-deco manner (see /biography/berlin-years).

Many of these printed pictures are the lithograph versions of his paintings, and they make up entries 68 to 86 of the 1935 estate catalogue, where the print and the original painting are listed together (see /exhibitions/1935-nemzeti-szalon-estate). The individual items are catalogued at /printed-works.
