Molnár Vera

Molnár Vera (1906 to 1992) was a Hungarian film actress of the late silent and early sound era. György Rauscher painted her in 1928, and the tempera portrait is held at the Országos Színháztörténeti Múzeum és Intézet (the Hungarian Theatre Museum and Institute, OSZMI) in Budapest (/bibliography#oszmi-molnar-vera).

(She is a distinct person from the later op-art painter Vera Molnár, 1924 to 2023.)

The Rauscher portrait

The portrait is a tempera on hardboard, 50 by 39.5 cm, in the OSZMI collection under accession 2015.4.1, where it arrived in 2015 as a gift of Dr. Tibor Gaálné. It is one of the better-documented of Rauscher’s sittings, and it appears as catalogue no. 65 of the 1935 estate exhibition. The work record is at /works/molnar-vera-1928.
