Untitled (bare-chested figure), 1921
An early oil by György Rauscher of a bare-chested figure, painted in 1921; the subject is not identified.
A bare-chested young man, his head thrown back and eyes closed in what reads as song or rapture, emerges from a dark green ground in warm, earthy browns. It is an expressive early work, painted before his turn to New Objectivity, and is signed and dated at the lower right, Dorogi-Rauscher, 1921 (in the “of Dorog” form he sometimes used; see /venues/dorog).
It belongs with the works that predate the 1935 estate catalogue (see /biography/training).
