Jazz
Jazz (also recorded as Jazz-band) is a 1928 oil painting by György Rauscher, number 49 in the 1935 estate catalogue.
The painting is a crowded dance floor: couples in evening dress turning to the music, a band of musicians along the back, and at the centre a dancing couple, the woman in a yellow dress and the man in black, with the date 1928 marked on a drum. The colour is high and the movement swirling. It is signed at the lower right.
It is one of the night-world scenes of his Hungarian years (see /biography/hungarian-years), and it was reproduced in Színházi Élet in 1928, at the time of his Brünn exhibition.
