Önarckép Ajax-szal (Self-Portrait with Ajax)
Önarckép Ajax-szal (Self-Portrait with Ajax) is a 1927 self-portrait by György Rauscher, in which the painter stands with his dog, Ajax.
It survives in a period reproduction: the painter shown full-length in a light suit, standing against a dark ground, with the dog seated alert at his side. The image is a press halftone, so the colour and surface are not recoverable from it.
In his self-portraits Rauscher tended to present himself as a man of the world rather than as a working painter (see /biography/hungarian-years). The picture is distinct from the later Séta Ajax-szal (Walk with Ajax), catalogue no. 87, a different composition.
