Tátrai téli táj (Tatra Winter Landscape)
Tátrai téli táj (Tatra Winter Landscape) is a 1921 oil by György Rauscher, held at the Komáromi Klapka György Múzeum. It is one of the very few landscapes in an oeuvre given almost entirely to portraits.
The painting shows a bare tree at the left, snow lying across the foreground, and a turbulent blue-grey-green sky over distant hills, worked in broad, vigorous strokes. It is signed at the lower left.
It dates from the painter’s late teens, the period of his early treatment for tuberculosis at a sanatorium in the High Tatras (see /biography/origins and /biography/final-months-and-afterlife). As an early work it predates the 1935 estate catalogue.
