Hegedülők (Violinists)

Hegedülők (Violinists) is an oil painting of about 1925 by György Rauscher.

Two young men are set close together against a green ground. One sits in the foreground in a dark green jacket, his hands in his lap; behind him, to the right, a second young man plays a violin, the reddish-brown instrument under his chin and the bow drawn across it. The faces are flushed and sharply modelled and the forms firm and closed, in Rauscher’s New Objectivity manner. It is signed at the lower left.

It is a distinct work from the 1929 colour lithograph Szférák zenéje / Hegedülők (catalogue no. 80; see /printed-works/sport-im-bild-1929-11-14-szferak-zeneje), which shows two women, and from the Hegedülő férfi of the salerooms (see /works/hegedulo-ferfi). The painter’s family holds a photographic copy of this canvas (see /biography/hungarian-years).
