Hegedülő férfi (Violinist)

Hegedülő férfi (Violinist) is a work in oil and pastel on cardboard by György Rauscher.

Two muscular male figures fill the sheet in strong ochre, orange and brown. The upper figure stands and leans forward to play a violin, the bow a dark diagonal across the composition; below him a seated man in an orange shirt raises one hand toward his head, the other resting on a heavy bare thigh. The modelling is sculptural and the contours sharp, in the manner of the turn toward solid, plastic form that Rauscher took from about 1925. It is signed at the lower right, RGY.

The painting was offered at the Virág Judit Galéria 67th autumn auction in 2021. It is distinct from the colour lithograph Hegedülők / Szférák zenéje (catalogue no. 80; see /printed-works/sport-im-bild-1929-11-14-szferak-zeneje).
